First off I want to apologize for the lack of coverage on this show. I had some serious RL work drama going on and then went on vacation to waterpark resort with my family for a week that required nightly double Sapphire & Tonics to deal. So, I am going to do some minicaps to cover those because no couple/former couple who gave of their time to spend 24 more hours together should not be judged by me.
It’s fitting that this week’s couple Renetta and Jason are from my adopted home town, Chicago/Chicagoland area. I can tell by the tree and wooded area type name she is from the suburbs
Renetta and Jason have a story for the ages, they met in kindergarten and it was love at first sight.
Seriously the cutest “the way they were” photos on this show hands down
Jason stole his mom’s ring to give her because that’s what he thought that adults did to show love and make it official. Over the years, they dated and had good times but were ultimately not ever able to make it work. Renetta says that being with him is like a dream until it’s not. Every time it’s the same, they have great time and then he disappears. Oh no, this sounds all too familiar to me. Jason says that the most current time they were together was two years ago
I even took her to an R Kelly show
Jason says that although life has taken them different directions they always come back like 360 together and that’s what makes him wonder if they belong together. Jason speaks in terrible similes and looks like he smoked a fatty in the alley before he came to the loft.
As Jason enters, Renetta is standing at the counter, arms crossed and shakes her head as she sees the enormous bundle of roses.
or choke you…
She remarks that they are bigger then the both of them. But she isn’t fooled by these flowers because this is his game.
I need straight talk, no chaser
Renatta comments that she hasn’t seen him in a long time and asks him why is that. Jason remarks that you know their careers have taken them on different paths. Jason is a jet charter broker and I am not sure why this highlighted but this is the first person they have shown pictures of their career.
I wonder if he brokered the deal for Al’s Beef to cater Will Ferrell’s private jet
Renatta is an artist and he has always loved her work. She says being with him is jut easy because there isn’t that struggle to find common ground. Their families like each other and she always assumed they would be a power couple. There is some banter back and forth about how far they need to go in when Renatta says damn it, let’s just go. They take their positions and start in on the oh so seductive discussion of… where did it all go wrong.
Players take your positions
Renatta begins the interrogation by asking him why he seeks her out. Jason pauses and says that she is the “first image” of the girl that he wants in his life. Frankly he loses points with me here for not saying that she is one for him period. Then she asks why when he seeks her out does he leave and make her fall but isn’t ever there to catch her. He says that he just wasn’t ready and bailed.
What kind of bullshit is that
He says that he just wasn’t mature enough to have that conversation with her and it was easier to just leave. Basically, he was seconding guessing if she was the one, if he was moving too fast and if getting married prematurely would have been a mistake. Hmmm sounds like Jason is keeping Renatta on the book, stringing her along but not committing with the promise that someday all the stars will align and they will be together. He basically admits as much when Renatta tells him she always thought he would be her husband. He tells her that it wasn’t like that he wasn’t thinking of her. He WANTED to call but he knew that meant having a conversation he didn’t want to have and he knows that was selfish. Renatta asks if there was somebody else and Jason says that were other females.
More than one
Jason, explain she was still into his bachelor life and was ok spending some time together but full weeks was, “something Jason just wasn’t into.” Anytime someone has to speak about themselves in the third person to explain themselves, that is the time to run.
Renatta then asks the one thing that every burned ex wants to know, “why wasn’t I enough.” She realizes and verbalizes that this just makes him sound like every other man, and she didn’t see him like that.
I didn’t think you was basic
He agrees, more than likely to get in her panties and says NOW he’s different. He wants to see where he went wrong and if he can fix this. Then he breaks out a great Jasonism and says it’s like a car, is it totaled or can it be fixed.”
Renatta pours herself a drink while Jason tries to sweet talk her about how wonderful she is. In her talking head, she says that dating him is great because he knows all the right things to do and say.
He comes around the counter telling her she’s fly and the queen. Renatta is all I know, you didn’t. He calls it fate when picks up the paying cards and behind the queen he pulls is a king but Renatta asks him how many times he ditched the queen for a joker. Jason laughs it off and says he wasn’t a king then. She says he drives her to drink.
Jason says he may look all calm and collected but he’s like a hurricane inside. OOHH bad choice of words to air this week. Renatta asks him what has changed now and he says he’s ready this time. He says that he smarter now. She asks if he talked to his family about all this and he has and they told him to chase his dream. My eyes cannot roll hard enough.
You haven’t said you are sorry
She says she likes what she hears, but she’s heard it all before, what is he a Celine Dion concert… for one night only. HAHAHAHA, this girl is witty. Like any good player, he tells her the only thing that will keep them apart is that she doesn’t want to believe that he has changed. Then he misremembers her role in school play that he claims to have wanted to work on just because she was in the play.
Renatta wants to know how she is supposed to know he learned his lesson and he says that his is a very big deal for him because they have never had this conversation before. She tells him to think about what he wants from her while she changes into her pajamas because in the morning they are going to decide if the are “third times the charm,” or “three strikes you’re out.” She makes them papers for both to answer these burning questions.
Then she changes into pajamas that she totally didn’t buy just for this occasion.
Oh these old things, I only wear these when I am not trying to make a point
Then there is some cuddling and he tells her she needs to be ready to be caught. She talks about his special locker kisses as kids. Then she says don’t run out while I am sleeping in the middle of the night that reminds me of a very special moment with my ex I am going to share at the end of this post.
They wake up in the morning prepared to each circle what their choice is for moving forward….
THIRD TIMES THE CHARM…….
There’s hugging and kissing then……………
Jason brings out the original ring he gave her in kindergarten gets down on one knee but doesn’t really propose exactly.
So, Renatta has to ask what this means, he says it means commitment, it means history, it means friendship. She says she is happy but wants a solid answer and asks what he would say if someone asked what Renatta is to him and he says that she is his fiancé and that’s what she wanted to hear.
They call his mom from the interview couch where they are sitting together and of course it goes to her voicemail. Renatta even calls her future mother-in-law…
Please make this work so when it airs we can say we are still together
But then this placard goes up…
So, in their interview online, Renatta tells us from her car that once they got back to Chicago “the kid” was up to his old habits. While Jason, from what I can only conceive as the toilet of a fancy bathroom says Renatta was mistrusting for no reason. They are both moving on and dating other people.
So Renatta’s mention of Jason constant disappearing, even joking about it made me think of my high school boyfriend. We went out in 9th and 10th grade each time him breaking up with me for someone else and once on the day my grandma died. Throughout the rest of high school, we remained friendly, I even went to his graduation party where he proceeded to get wasted and emo with me. I figured both of us leaving for college would be the end of our story but he always found ways to show up in my life like going to my house when I wasn’t there to eat dinner with my mom to get my number at school. After an argument, our communication tapered off and I didn’t see for him for years. Then one day he popped up when I happened to be in town and we made plans to go to the state fair together. At the time, I knew he was living with some girl but I didn’t care because I no longer had any romantic interest in him and hadn’t for years. He was so cute but there were things that my 15-year-old self loved about him that at 21 were not appealing. It was a good time and we were getting wasted when I decided to spill my heart. I had been through something big that year romantically and I just wanted him to know that I appreciated what a good boyfriend he really was when we were together and I was grateful for that experience. But I think he thought I was confessing my love. He told me he was going to the bathroom and after 30 minutes of sitting in a beer garden by myself I realized he ditched me. Thankfully we had gone with other friends and I was able to get home but the worst part was that he had left his car at my house that night and when I got home it was gone. So, not only did he leave me there at the fair waiting for him to come back but he found a way to my house to get his car. I never trusted him ever again and every time he showed up or called I was always like whatever dude.
So, what did you all think of this episode? Were you expecting Jason and Renatta to make it to the altar or did you know that it would all fall apart? Let me know in the comments below.
