Hello Trashies and welcome back to A Night With My Ex. This week former lover time travelers are Melicka and Tahir.
Melicka believed that Tahir was her true love because she could be around him 24/7 and never get tired of him. They met an all-white party, people or dress, I am not sure but they sure were cute when they were together.
It was love at first sight and he said she was from another place like heaven. Tahir says that people used to call them the Beyoncé and Jay-Z of Wilkes-Barre, PA. A smallish former coal mining town of about 40,000. They are both stylists and that a lot of people didn’t get them there, but they got each other. They were together for a year and a half planning on one day having a son together named Exodus Rain. I know I know if you could see me I am rolling my eyes too. Then Tahir just packed up his truck with all his worldly belongings and moved to Atlanta. No explanation and they haven’t seen each other in 4 years. .
Melicka arrives first, finds the tequila and starts making herself a margarita. She is here today to get some answers because they were supposed to shake that small town together and instead he just left her there alone. Melicka is here for the truth. Tahir says that Melicka is her soulmate and he really wants her back in his life….. but he’s scared.
2:52 PM – Tahir walks into the suite, this time gray colored with yellow and navy accents. She is excited to see him but she doesn’t want to hug him because she is both excited and mad but eventually she relents.
He asks her how life and where she is living. She tells him she is living here in LA where you are right now. He is asks how the people are because he heard they can be superficial and tells him he would fit right in. SHADE and he recognizes it immediately, he knows she is here duke it out. She asks him about Atlanta, he says it’s getting better but it took awhile to get used to. He invites her to come visit sometime and immediately she like. “Are you kidding me?” He dials it back is like I didn’t leave because of you it was the town. But Melicka is smarter than that and tells him you didn’t just wake up one day and decide to leave. Tahir says in a voice over that she deserves the truth but it may not have a happy ending. I WONDER WHAT THE TRUTH IS…………..
Tahir offers to play truth or dare. At first I thought this was some nifty new card game the producers left in there for them but nope, it’s just a regular deck of cards, odds are dares and evens are truth. Melicka draws first and he asks her what she felt when she first met him. She tells him he’s going to make her cry but admits it was love at first sight. Tahir’s turn, he draws an even card and Melicka is ready she asks, “Who was the person you were with right after you moved to Atlanta.” OOOOOHHHH she had that card in her back pocket the whole time.
Jason, oh and BTW I am attracted to men and I am gay
5:17 PM – Melicka is shocked at the news and I think hearing it straight from him hit hard. She begins to cry and says it was all a lie. Tahir assures her it wasn’t and I believe him, I think he really cared about her just not romantically. She says he could have told her and he says he didn’t even know himself. Really, that’s the route you are going to take this, judgy eyes from me. But in reality Melicka says people had told her before that Tahir wasn’t into woman and she always said BS, he loves me. In her talking head she tells us she has lost her soulmate and saying it out loud makes it true. She doesn’t understand why he didn’t just tell her because she doesn’t judge people like that and if he had been straight with her she probably would have cried but then got over it and they could have gone checking out dudes together. AW, that’s actually sort of cute and the best answer to finding out that your boyfriend/girlfriend is actually gay.
It was easier to hide and not talk about it, yep that’s answer I was looking for over your shoulder
Then he starts to give her the riot act about how hard it is a black man to live like this, which I am not going to touch. BUT as a woman of color let’s just agree WE ALL HAVE OUR CROSSES TO BEAR SIR. Melicka yells at him does he know how hard it is for her to be here with him right now dealing with all the BS before he got to the real. She reiterates how much she loved him and would have done anything for him and he just threw it all away. He comes back at her how hard it was to grow up being a black man AND Muslim, so wouldn’t even know, so there. She wisely reminds him this isn’t a competition.
Melicka doesn’t understand how you can do that to someone that you love. Then Tahir goes on some rant about being abandoned by his Dad and making him not be able to feel things, which is sad but not unique. He reasons that since he was strong enough to deal with the pain of being abandoned he figured she was strong enough to handle it too and never really considered her. She tells him that is FUCKED UP.
Thankfully, Melicka isn’t buying it and tells him straight up that she knows that he is smarter than that, he had a choice, he choose the easy way out and knew what he was doing. She asks what if she wasn’t strong enough to survive it all and she ended up in a ditch somewhere.
I would be all WTF happened to her
And they both laugh. They sit down to eat and Melicka gets teared up again talking about how she felt during that time after he left and he tells her not to cry. She tells him she isn’t going to hold back just make him feel better about life.
Own your shit, I am gay, I fucked this girl over AND I NEED TO BE REAL
Then he cries.
Not the deep sobs of someone who is hurting but the hard eye shuts, gasping for air and shoulder shrugs of a faker/Housewife. Of course Melicka comforts him because she is amazing.
Nothing says awesome like comforting the one who screwed you over
He was afraid to be real with his family because doesn’t think they will accept and love him. That is legit.
What’s not is your lack of actual tears
Melicka is a compassionate loving person and he totally played her to change the conversation. Tahir says that if he can get his dad to accept it and his family to acknowledge it that would be great.
I mean nowadays you’re not a cool family if you don’t have a gay*
*For the record that is actually what he said, seriously.
Then Melicka gives him more real talk about his situation with his dad and he stares off thankful to not have to be in the hot seat now that it’s all about his dad abandoning him. Blah, blah blah…. Suddenly he’s OK and Melicka feels good that he cried to her but admits to us that they will never be together the way she thought they would be eventually. Then they do the celebratory “I’m gay” dance you do when you find your friend is gay.
This is much nicer than the taking you to lunch to talk you down off the wall because I accidentally found out from someone else and you think I told everyone, even though I didn’t, it was your supposed best friend I had to do
Now Tahir feels free and now he can be his true self with Melicka. She asks about the men he dated in Atlanta. Irrelevant, churchy and five OH, they both trip that he dated a cop. Melicka says that she is no longer attracted to him. Then they have some fun, throwing whip cream beating each other with the roses he brought, which in the previews made it look like she was mad but they were giggling the whole time.
Tahir thinks that there is still a possibility that they could have a kid together because she allows him to be who he is. Those are not good grounds for having a child together AT ALL. He voices this thought to her with the super romantic proposal of, if things don’t work out with other people we can still get married to each other. Melicka shuts him down and says NO, she wants to be desired and deserves the whole package.
Exodus Rain deserves to be born and he’s ready
Melicka says spoken like a true G who doesn’t want to face what I am saying right now.
You are emotionally cold, and unforgiving, I can take harshness but when it come to my unborn child waiting in heaven to be born, NO
She says he needs to deal with all that stuff with his dad so he doesn’t repeat it in any way. But Tahir in his talking head says he would love to just show up to a family function someday and say….
This is Melicka, this my boyfriend and this is my son
He’s not sure his family is ready for that but maybe he is unicorn to change their minds. It’s like that old queen tells Jennifer Aniston when she was trying to get gay Paul Rudd to raise her baby with her she made with that ugly guy. Don’t fix your life so that you’re left alone right when you come to the middle of it because that’s exactly what the scenario has in store for Melicka.
They go to bed. Melicka says that their relationship has been battlefield and immediately I had to rewind because I started singing love is a battlefield in my mind. She calls him selfish and not the person she thinks she should have a baby with but the will be best friends forever. Now she knows she has to let go.
6:07 AM – They wake up and all we hear is Tahir telling her she is so pretty. She really is and has beautiful skin. They sit down for breakfast and immediately he asks her when is coming to Atlanta so they can start working on Exodus. She says she knows how wonderful he is but she wants a love child. He asks what he needs to do to change her mind and she tells him to stick around for a while …
Real talk, HELL NO
She says she came here for closure and that’s what she got. She’s whole and now she can move on.
Presently, they are both single and still friends. Melicka came down to Atlanta and Tahir admits that they are not going to have a baby. Tahir is happy that he released himself from the closet to Melicka and in turn released her from any thoughts they would get back together. Melicka was disappointed that he didn’t really acknowledge her feelings and instead spent a lot of time focusing on how brave he now is to face the truth. However they both said it was a great experience and they are glad they did the show.
Honestly, there are some funny unaired clips on bravo.com that were not so dramatic and I am kind of disappointed they didn’t air them because there was a lot of time spent on Tahir’s “abandonment issues.” I don’t know about you all but my encounters with exes, and I use that term loosely because between 16 and 26 all my “relationships” fell somewhere between hopelessly devoted to someone who could care less and we went out a few times, were filled with awkwardness and unintentionally funny moments. What did you all think? Let me know in the comments below.
