This week was actually one of the best episodes this season because we got to see the group do something that was not only fun but also proves that growing up has its good moments too.
The episode opens with Ronnie sobbing on the patio. If you have read my other recaps, you know this is my least favorite storyline going on in the season. In fact, my suggestion to the producers is less Ronnie crying in the second season because it is depressing AF and he needs professional help.
The next morning Mike is talking to Pauly about Jenni getting mad over the pie in the face that never happened. Jenni and Mike hug it out and are fine, but Mike is not ruling out the pie. At this point he knows she has the ring and just wants to get through this engagement.
The girls prepare for their Girl’s Day and the first stop is getting a drink.
I really like that Snooki updated her signature bump to something more modern
On the car ride to Ocean 10, Nicole asks Lauren the really important questions, “if she drinks and kisses Mike can he get drunk too?” The guys have a lot of errand to run, flowers, sweets and…….
But Ronnie is too wrapped up in his own shit to get out of bed and in his own head to join them, even though he is like TOTES happy for Mike.
The guys talk about Ronnie’s absence on the drive and Mike is like yeah facing being dad has got to be hard. Pauly knows that is just some stupid shit excuse, the real issues are going back and face his baby mama without the support of the fam. But Mike is disappointed that Ron couldn’t rise to the challenge of putting his big day first.
At lunch the girls are getting ready to rage with a drink menu bigger than a food menu.
The girls tell Lauren that Mike is so lucky to have her in his life, but she gives credit to him for becoming the person she always knew he could be.
The guys have made their first stop on the errands and it’s to get some Boyz II Men inspired apparel for all the guys. Hopefully they carry the size extra-meaty for Ron since he wasn’t there to try on the clothes before they bought them. Mike politely chats up the shop girl Naomi and when he introduces himself, she tells him she knows who he is.
Congratulations Naomi you are the first person to openly acknowledge you know someone from their reality show and at the same time not really care… I applaud you
Pauly finds the perfect outfit for Vinny for after the proposal by the pool too.
In another part of town, the girl’s spa day has been downgraded to just blowouts at DryBar. While complimenting Lauren’s very pretty hair, Nicole gives her the highest compliment, her hair is so thick bitch doesn’t even need extensions. But having a serious case of thoughtyousaiders, a second glass of prosecco and blow-dryers in her ear Deena thinks she said, “bitch needs to eat a sandwich.” Basically, Deena is getting loud and wasted. Nicole and Jenni are all like, “OMG stop being so loud.” But between Jenni acting like a hard bitch at dinner the night before and Deena at the salon I am pretty sure Lauren knows something is up because she keeps smiling at them.
At the florist the guys are learning the truth about the cost of flowers as they fork over $1,241. They act as if this is ridiculous….boys, this is just for the proposal wedding flowers are WAY more expensive. But I sincerely hope Vinny doesn’t have his heart set on penis flowers for his wedding.
While at home Ronnie doing the extended club mix of I Just Want to Be Happy with Somebody.
Next stop is back to the Sugar Factory for some celebratory desserts after she says YES! They hide everything in the Smush Room or as I like to call it the Guest Room because it hasn’t been used for anything else this season.
Mike finds Ron at where he left him, in bed.
Ronnie apologizes for not being there for him today but starts to cry and shake his head as Mike tries to ask him what’s wrong. Look, I know Ron obviously has some bigger issues then “having a baby with Not Sammi” and that they aren’t the perfect couple (did anyone think that) he allegedly presented. But this is getting so old, NO ONE FORCED YOU TO HAVE UNPROTECTED SEX.
He claims that he doesn’t have control on anything. Mike, like all reformed addicts knows that the only thing you can truly control is yourself and he reminds Ronnie of that knowledge. He also, tells him that he loves him and if he needs anything at all he can call him anytime just to talk.
The ladies arrive fresh from the salon and I hoping that it’s the humidity that caused their hair to fall because otherwise those are some shitty blowouts. Mike tells Lauren to get ready because there are leaving for dinner at 6:30 PM.
I paused to listen to the dialogue and caught this picture, I feel like it really captures the Mike and Ron dynamic of the entire episode
The roommates discuss how the actual proposal is going to go and how he is going to get the ring in hand to propose.
Mike cannot figure out what to wear and frankly he should have picked out something new for himself when he was getting the guys clothes because his wardrobe is looking tired. But at almost 7:00 PM and neither one dressed, the roommates tell him that he’s got to get going. The cab gets there, and the roommates are casually acting like they are going to hang out until the door closes.
I think it’s very sweet that Nicole wants to make this amazing for Mike because of ALL he is going through, but everything he is “going through” are due to his own actions. I have the same issue with Teresa Giudice too.
It does look like the crew and production assistants threw in a hand too based on all the fuzzy out focus people on the screen. Then Ronnie faces an even bigger dilemma than his emotionally crippling sadness and disappointment in his life.
How to get a giant bunch of balloons through a tiny door
At the restaurant Mike makes a startling revelation.
Nevertheless, he manages to cover for it and orders enough the Lauren isn’t suspicious that this is just a normal night.
After 15 courses Lauren is starting to get full but Mike’s raviolis are still coming plus he doesn’t know if the house is ready. They are running around lighting a million faux candles and still decorating.
Ok and having some fun too
The duck quacks alone as Mike is on his 7th bathroom break trying to figure out if they are ready or not for them to come home. Eventually Ronnie answers and is like yeah, we are getting ready. Mike tells him that he is wrapping up and will be home in a half hour.
Everyone rushes to get dressed, Nicole will be a sexy Carmen Sandiego and Deena a sexy secret agent.
The Guido Boys are also ready to go
Vinny’s moves tell me that someone secretly YouTubes boy band videos in his free time. It’s OK Vin, I fell in an O-Town music video hole a few weeks ago.
Mike and Lauren arrive in the SUV which is weird because they supposedly left in a cab. Vinny practices his mouth exercises and says it all feels like the are proposing to Lauren because it’s been such a group effort.
After leading her down the path of love they end up in the backyard where the girls are beside themselves. Vinny direct Lauren’s attention to the large screen and it starts.
After a series of pictures of them through the years he gets down on one knee and asks.
Good thing she got a manicure for this trip
After some rainbow cookies and champagne the cast parties.
The next morning that couple wakes up happy to be engaged and get in the confessional together. Lauren says she waited a long time for this and now its wedding time.
They make breakfast together for everyone before she has to leave. But that was apparently just light snack because the guys are heading to Mas Cubans. Ronnie is down since there are no Cuban women in his future. The ladies decide to stay back and hydrate after a night of raging.
Talk at lunch slowly turns to the fact that vacation is almost over. Vinny wants to know what the means for Mike, he admits that there will be sentencing happening and “the worst” could happen. But that was a big part of proposing to Lauren, to lock that down because he got himself a ride or die and he knows she will stick by him no matter what.
Ronnie takes this opportunity to bash on Jen in his talking head because in case you missed it, now he doesn’t trust Jen and she’s the problem with the relationship. The show further explores this bane of Ronnie’s issues making the girls talk about how they wish they knew before they were so hard on him too. Sigh, even if it’s true it does not excuse his cheating and Deena was right to begin with, he should have been done with her when it happened, but he chose to go back. Also, he keeps moving the timeline on when it happened.
At lunch the guys ask Ronnie about Jen.
Yeah, I am pretty sure she told you that if you wanted to be single you could be, but you said you wanted her and the baby
Jen isn’t on camera to defend herself on any of this and even if it is true it feels gross. Especially when he keeps referring to her “old ways” like she some sort of prostitute turning tricks for crack. But all this real talk about hanging up player cards and growing up is making Pauly feel like he wants to the same. Since no episode is complete without some heartfelt moments about the family, Vinny reflects on how much love is still here between them all despite the ups and downs.
Back at the house Mike takes advantage of Ronnie being in the shower to share with the group that he is concerned about RBJ because he doesn’t seem to realize that most of his problems stem from his drinking and partying. Mike really feels like he needs to tell Ronnie that he needs to get a grip on his life because he needs to get his shit together before the baby comes. But Jenni the defender and excuse maker extraordinaire says that her and Nicole went through the same and look at how great everything has worked out for them! But Mike thinks he is fucking crazy and he is going to continue to spiral unless he fixes his problem.
Vinny thinks Mike is just being judgmental because he has his shit together now, but look at who he was. I guess people are not allowed to change or evolove in Vinny’s mind, maybe because he hasn’t. Jenni also does not think Mike is coming from a genuine place. Her proof, he didn’t go to Ron about it first, he came to them all and therefor its shit talking.
This is the face of an enabler
You guys heard her say that right?
So, what does Jenni do? Tells Ronnie that Mike is talking shit and it is on.
Next episode Ronnie explodes and not with poop. Also, Pauly’s stalker returns! I cannot believe they found her and flew her down to Miami just for this moment.
Now, as I was finishing this recap I saw that US Weekly is reporting that Jen has been released after being arrested for domestic battery after dragging Ronnie down the road. You guys what is wrong with these two!?!??!?!?! I guess Mike wasn’t just talking shit because there was legit reason to be concerned for Ronnie’s situation. I just hope Ariana Sky is doing well, she is just three months old and this is no way to start off life.
