With the Sudden Death Quickfire in the last regular episode there are two cheftestants heading to Last Chance Kitchen.
Non-mustachioed Joe and Baby Bear
Big Daddy reviews their missteps that got them eliminated in the first place. For Non-mustachioed Joe it was his chunky cauliflower risotto and for Baby Bear her shitty nachos. Tom asks if they think they know who is the reigning champ of Last Chance Kitchen. Non-mustachioed Joe guesses Claudette because she has done a ton of these and can’t seem to lose. Baby Bear guesses Brother Luck….
He got game
Tom explains that all three of them will be competing but only two will be advancing to the next round. The challenge is to create something people eat almost every week on the same day but if you did it the same every time it gets old and it’s also celebrated at Taco Bell…
Its The Taco Bar Tuesday Challenge
They will be creating a taco bar for Big Daddy and the eliminated chefs. It doesn’t have to be Mexican BUT Tom will be building his own taco from their stations. So, he may not try everything but they have to make sure everything’s really good. They can use anything on the table, in the pantry and of course to amp up the flavor Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning. They will have 40 minutes
Non-mustachioed-Joe is going to go Korean style and flavors. He worked at a Korean restaurant for a while where they did street fairs with the tacos that were really popular. I wonder which one? Baby Bear is doing the most delicious Pakistani taco bar EVAH. She really wants to start a conversation about Pakistan in a different way and that’s what getting on a platform like Top Chef was all about for her in the first place.
Baby Bear loses her show running to the oven. Brother is roasting the veggies on the open grill. While Non-mustachioed Joe really works that Hidden Valley Ranch angle.
Brother cooks Julia Childs style by nipping at the tequila while making drunken beans.
A little for me
A little for the beans
I just realized that the tequila isn’t as present this year. I guess Patron is not a sponsor this season, so no finale in Mexico? Big Daddy makes his rounds, Brother and Baby Bear are a bit too busy to talk to him but Non-mustachioed Joe reveals he is actually making tostadas….YUM!
The peanut gallery asks Baby Bear what she is doing with the coconut milk and she explains her dish. Claudette asks if she can eat hers like nachos.
Non-mustachioed Joe doesn’t have a plan for the layout of his taco bar he just wants it to be cute AF. With five minutes left Baby Bear almost forgets about heating the tortillas.
Brother went Tex-Mex:
Tom’s skips the poblanos and that concerns Brother because that’s where the acidity is but he’s hoping the salsa makes up for the vinegar flavor.
Baby Bear Pakistani Taco Bar:
Tom skips the avocado coconut cream sauce but wants to know why they egg? Fati explains that an egg is very traditional with Chana masala.
Non-mustachioed Joe’s Korean Tostado Bar:
Tom skips the mirin pickled onions but he’s not worried because there is enough flavor and in the other components.
The eliminated chefs dig in while the trio await the verdict. Tom liked all three: Brother’s was good albeit real traditional. Baby Bear’s packed the spice and punch she had been talking about all season. However Tom wishes she would have seasoned the tamarind more and cut the steak into smaller pieces. Big Daddy likes that Non-mustachioed Joe went in a Korean direction, his had cleaner flavors. His favorite was….
Oh, NOW I see the Jonah Hill reference
Brother is still in the competition but…
Baby Bear is out
Only two challenges left and the next two are going to be a BIG!
